Brief description
The Serralves Museum campus is set within an 18-hectare cultural landscape in Porto, where architecture, gardens, and contemporary art are integrated within a coherent spatial framework. The park combines historic layers—including the gardens designed by Jacques Gréber—with more recent interventions supporting public use and cultural programmes.
Within this context, the museum has evolved through the addition of the Álvaro Siza Wing, conceived as an extension fully embedded within the park. The new pavilion reinforces continuity between built form, landscape structure, and visitor routes, expanding the museum’s capacity while preserving the spatial coherence of the campus.
The park’s newly developed areas host permanent large-scale artworks by Richard Serra, Claes Oldenburg, and Dan Graham, integrated into the landscape rather than treated as isolated objects.
Through this approach, the Serralves landscape operates as a cultural infrastructure, mediating between art, nature, and architecture over time.
